With not much to do wide field at this time of the year I thought I would do some targets I can capture reasonably quickly (yeah I even mega-ed this up a little).
Being a bright object, 47 Tucanae does not really require long subs (though I did use 15 minute subs for the luminance), it can with some surrounding object present an interesting image.
I counted 5 globulars in the field but there could be one more. There are two I think are part of the SMC which are small and faint on the left hand side. The two brighter ones I think are attached to our galaxy but I could be wrong.
There is a small faint galaxy too on the upper right hand side of 47 Tucanae.
I am quite fond of the blue stars on the far left side of the image. These I think are stars in the SMC itself.
All in all the field provides its own curiosities.
Its probably a little under saturated for the tastes of some and I accept that too. Feel free to tell me if you feel it is under saturated. I am curious as to peoples perceptions.
Beautiful Paul. Yes it's a busy area. You beat me to it, I'll be posting my own feeble attempt of only 2 hrs worth tomorrow. I plate solved using Pixinsight and there dozens of galaxies nearby.
Yum. I've always noticed that in visual instrument, the core is like a yellow lantern superimposed on a whiter background, but most folk's photos seem to be a standard everything white. You've captured the colour beautifully with those short exposures.

Nice image though. I think your instinct is right - needs a teensy bit more saturation IMO.

Yeah like you Marcus I am trying to tame a donkey. Well it is a donkey in my case. Yours might be a stallion. Still trying to sort out my STXL issues. Taken mountains of data with some ugly artefacts present. Just trying to nail down the culprit. Is it stray light, EM or faulty sensor/camera? Looking like stray light at this stage. Not to mention sorting out tilt etc from the installation of a flattener. Lucky I am patient. Other wise I would have chucked the towel in by now and bought a Planewave 14.
