Al - I think that is the most likely explaination of the how (and it had occurred to me and I thought I mentioned it in the original post but failed to). Still curious as to the when and will have to talk to the locals and see if I can find out. Fires are not something that happen on the beach these days so I am curious about how old they are.

There are some excellent photos posted this month so far.
These red rings on a yellow stone beach have me puzzled.
It's a tidal flat and the stones aren't just on the surface.
There are 5 rings in total on this polka-dot shore line.
The only idea i have was Fish blood stains after being caught & bled ? either that or a new form of crop circles tho rock circles c my eyes going round ?
This month has some seriously good entries and it's a tough call.
One more round thing from me before it's all over tho: An old round thing in the mud of the river bed at low tide. This is beside the very old train way to Don Heads wharf that no longer exists. Part of the past.
