Good question Roger,
How come Justin got nice red nebulas inside the LMC?
I have a very old bad photo on flickr taken with a DSLR
& it came out all blue just like Roger's.

Thanks Louie!

Hi Roger and Allan,

No big secret here, in photo shop I make a duplicate of the image, select Hue and saturation I select cyan and change the hue until it moves to the red. This seems to correspond pretty well to the HA regions, for the LMC.

I then layer in the modified sections into the original, usually have to do it a few times till it looks right.

So it's just channel swapping and layering of an unmodified DSLR image that looks the same as any other.

Cheers,

Justin.

OK Justin,
if you look at Rogers thread I had to separate then swap the red & blue channels
then recombine them to get the red areas coming out.
I don't think you can capture the LMC with a DSLR without cheating on the processing.

cheers
Allan

Too true Allan!

Have to get creative with an unmodified DSLR image.

Cheers,

Justin.
