Smile girls night out - THANKS JEANETTE!!

just wanted to say a great big "thank you" to jeanette for our girls night out last night. Although there was just the two of us (well 5 counting the boys) we had a great night. Jeanette gave me some good pointers and showed me lots of stuff I hadn't seen before - my favourite was the Jewell Box. Beautiful!!

We had a great girls night out, but not a high heel in sight!!
THANKS JEANETTE!!

Beth.

We had a great time!
After setting up the scope, feeding the kids, and taking the obligatory photo, we made up a viewing list. Knowing that we would have the moon with us for the evening, we only visited the brighter DSO's.
M42 was first on the list, because Beth had been trying for ages to find it.
Omega Centauri
The Tarantula Nebula.
We split two double stars. Alpha Centauri and Acrux.
The Jewel Box
Asterisms Stargate and Jaws ( no sombrero galaxy though, the moon was too bright)
Saturn
and Jupiter.
High cloud and a quick drop in temperature put an end to the evening.

I took a few AVI's of Jup which we processed together using Registax.

Thanks for coming over Beth, we'll have to crash the party at Kenilworth next time and you really see something then.

PS. we didn't sprain our ankle either

I am glad you had a good night last weekend! and we look forward to you crashing the party the next time round.
If you know where to look you can see the Sombrero in an 8" scope in just about twilight or even Moonlight

Nice to see you gals had a good night and the weather behaved itself - well sort of. You will have to make sure it is a new moon next time you meet up so you can really expand that list of objects

Andrew,
I passed onto Beth those maps that you gave me, and a copy of those disks as well.
Next time we'll have a dark sky. But with the kids around it's a lot easier if you can see where they are.
I just remembered this from the night....
My son Tom, 7yrs, playing with the electric fence that was strung up next to the scopes.
Bzzz, I like this, BZzz This is great Bzzz Bzzz This is fun BzzBzzz Try this Bzz.
I couldn't get it through his head that shock treatment is not really good for you.
Not a patch on the tricks that Houghy's boy gets up to though.LOL
