C100 Nebula

Hi Everyone,

For the life of me I can't see a running chicken, and to be honest, it's not a very interesting object, at least not in my photograph of this DSO!

Maybe it needs lots of Ha to fill it in. This is about 3 hrs worth of 5 min subs on my SBIG 8300c OSC. Shot from my backyard in suburban Melbourne with the IDAS LP filter in place.

It's my first go at dithering, and I think I've finally figured out flats (Hooray!) so I'm pleased with the quieter, cleaner results from these techniques.

...now to try all this on something much more aesthetically pleasing!

Thanks for looking, feedback and comments most welcome.

Cheers

Andy

Yup, no chooks there, but the strong Black/Red contrast is great. Very Pretty.

Thanks folks, appreciate your comments. I probably clipped the blacks a bit too much as well, but thanks for your responses.

Hi Andy,

I always thought the chicken was in the middle. to me, the neck and head are here. but now you've got me thinking. where is the running chicken
http://www.martinpughastrophotograph.../IC2948-HA.jpg

surprised that you didn't get more details with 3 hours with an OSC as this is a fairly bright object. do you have a link to a raw unprocessed but stacked version?

cheers
Alistair

edit: I think the chicken is a bit more apparent in this version, I see a chicken with wings outstretched...

Has anyone else got any ideas about where the elusive chicken is?

Cheers

Hi Andy,

Great image mate....

Without fear of trying to hijack your thread and apologies in advance, this is my version of the chook taken a while back with a Canon 350D and ED80.

This is just over 3 hours worth...can you see the chook in this? This image is rotated as well.

Paul

No need to apologize, yours is a much better pic
Wider FOV, more interesting composition and much more nebulosity detail in the middle, (mine turned to mush in there). "Stuffed" if I can see a chicken though, maybe its just me... cooped up too long here (sorry!)

Andy
