Smile Nebula (NGC 3199) in LRGB 4hrs

Hi,

Taking advantage of low moon, I captured this faint nebula on the early hours of 30 January, 2014. The image consist of LRGB 120:40:40:40 minutes, 10 min subs.

There are so many stars surrounding this nebula, that makes the nebula itself elusive and difficult (for me) to process, perhaps I ought to add some narrowband data.

Very good image of NGC 3199 David!


Star fields are so dense in this region of Carina it's a real challenge to dig out the nebula.

Great processing there David. Really nice. Love the star field and colours.

As you say the main object is a bit lost in there but overall a pleasing image.

Hi David,

Nice to see it in LRGB, I was going to add some LRGB to mine tonight, but you've covered that off well.

The star field looks so different between the LRGB and narrowband.

If you can add some Ha and/or OIII to the Luminance it might make the nebula stand out a bit more.

Thank you for your kind comments. I will try to add more Ha and Oiii if Sydney weather permits (its getting cloudy again). Will have to learn the whole thing to add NB into LRGB or L.

A nice contrast to the NB version, David! It looks like a great practice target for star reduction techniques

Thank you Rick, as Stuart has pointed out, there is huge difference in star size between NB and RRB. I have added 3 hours worth of Ha data into existing LRGB, the Nebula signal is much stronger and stars appeared smaller, however in my opinion the star hue and softness look better in LRGB.

Love the LRGB David, beautiful star field and star colours, the LHaRGB is ok too but the colour in the LRGB does it for me

maybe a "remove stars" form of processing would be better?

David that is a beautiful star field! The Nebula detail is very good too though I would love to see if more of the Nebula came out with more OIII data. Still, love it as is.
Really nice image and if it wasn't so 'busy' it would be my desktop, although I would spend way to much time looking at it :-)
