The whole nine yards!

Hi,

Not much sleep to be had with this bloody heatwave!!

So may as well do some imaging ,cooler box is struggling a bit though.

Here's the result, a 2 panel mosaic of the Chameleon Cloud Complex which now includes IC 2631 on the left. On the right in the field Ced 111 white in colour, Ced 110 blue reflection nebula and GN11.07.3 the small pointed red nebula. The dark nebula is Be 144.
Still need more data!!!

Equipment used.
8” F/4 astrograph , baader type III coma corrector,. HEQ Pro 5 mount, orion mini guider.
Camera.
Unmodded Cannon 1100D, Cooler box.
33 x 8 minute subs ISO 800 , flats and bias frames applied.
Stacked in Deep Sky Stacker . Stitched in ICE, Processed in Photoshop 7.

Cheers,

Justin.

Looking good Justin. Will you be adding any more panels? How many degrees is the cooler box helping in the hot weather?

Sorry for the late reply.

I've been changing my superannuation and income protection insurance.
I was given a 40mm thick folder full of weasel words and rubbery figures to try and get my head around.
Long story short, I'm going to see my accountant before I go .

Thanks Ian!

The 1100D works well at ISO 800, have to be careful at higher ISO's.

Nice of you to say, always good to have your input as you know your mosaics.
Must admit I'm getting hooked on mosaics!

Generally dark, good transparency especially after a rain.
There is light pollution glow from Adelaide, a good night it only comes up 5 degrees, average is about 10, 15 to 20 up is time to go inside.

Yep, definitely the one.
Can you express post some of that chilly my way.

Think I'll leave this at two panels.
These hot nights it struggles to cool down 12 deg C below ambient, cooler nights 15 to 17 max.

Still any cooling is good and the 1100D is not bad noise wise at 11C.

Cheers,

Justin.

So your skies are quite dark then? How far are you from Adelaide as the crow flies? A horizon glow that reaches even to 20deg up is pretty bloody good Canberra's glow from here reaches about twice that it gets a bit lower after midnight when many idiot paranoid non astronomers turn off their security?? Christmas in late January, driveway, dog kennel and backyard illuminating lights

Mike

Yep, don't no how to express it in darknesses Hmmm new word.

Adelaide is about 110 kms as the crow flies.
Ah yes, nothing like plenty security lights so the thieves can see what they are pinching.
I had an idiot neighbour when I lived in Clare, he had no fewer than 6 300 watt security lights across the front of his house and all would come on when a moth flew past.

Cheers,

Justin.

Thanks Steve!

For once the camera was orientated perfectly for the two frames to be stitched together. That's the problem doing mosaics, other wise I end taking more frame than needed.

Here's a link to Orion's cooler box.
http://www.telescope.com/Astrophotog...1/p/101916.uts

I've had two of them, the first one gradually sopped cooling so I send it back. The 2nd I purchased from an IIS member, still working but I had to replace the internal fan after a while.

Cooling realistically is to 17c below ambient on cooler nights.
I've also modified how it fixes together, got rid of the 4 annoying plastic screws and made a elastic strap with Velcro that goes around the box.

A lot quicker to make adjustments to the camera if needed.

Cheers,

Justin.

One thing I forgot to say, they are a bugger to balance and place quite a bit of strain on a standard focuser.
You need to find out whether your setup can take the extra load.

Cheers,

Justin.
