Thumbs down What is going on at Yahoo!?

Anyone else astounded at the mess Yahoo have made of their groups recently?

And today they "upgraded" Yahoo mail and made a mess of that as well, although it's not as bad as the groups.

Seriously, it's like they're deliberately trying to p*** off every one of their members. Lots of companies make use of the groups (e.g. Stellarvue) and they're losing business because it's such a turn-off now.

I agree. Yahoo Groups is completely wrecked. Its like they have a saboteur in their organisation.

Its really hard to follow a post. Even more so if you try to go earlier and read one post and try back it sends you to the latest thread again.

Greg.

Yes it is a bit of a mess.
I stopped using it a couple of weeks ago when the new format for groups started. I preferred the old way where I could see what I was looking for.
I can't be bothered with the new format particularly as there is better information in IIS.

I noticed that this morning in my mail as well .
I did not like it at first , but Morton the more I used it today the better it got ......,,,,,,,,
,,,,, , then it hit me , this is what 'Yahoo mail' use to look like about 4-5 years ago , same format , I don't mind it personally now after using it all day ( mail ) and I have been with yahoo for 15 odd years now and do like them ( Ad's and all ) .

But on the groups ?, WHAT THE HEY!!!! , its a real mess out there for sure , it does look like the work of a saboteur now its been mentioned .

Hi Morton

Have to agree with you, the club I'm a member of, the Wollongong Amateur Astronomy Club or Waacers for short version, have been using the Yahoo Tech Groups as the host of our club website for quite a while and although it's almost unfair to criticise what is a free hosting site the recent changes have not been for the better in the opinion of most of our members, including me.
The biggest problem I have is the way messages with similar wordings are linked to messages from several years ago, makes it very confusing to follow conversations. Other than that problem I'm slowly getting used to navigating the new format.

Jeff.

Just for info re Yahoo Groups
If you use Firefox, there is an plugin ( they have kept very quiet about ) that gets you back to almost the way it was prior to NEO
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/GroupM.../message/45137
I have been running it for several weeks and its still working,
Dunno if/when Yahoo will kill it, but its a lifesaver for using the groups online.

Andrew
( who got NEOd about 6 weeks ago when it really didnt work at all )

I suspect the Google Groups team has infiltrated the Yahoo! Groups team. If ya can't beat 'em, destroy 'em.

I've personally never liked Yahoo groups... no ability to tag topics, no ability to categorize topics, no ability to customize, limited search and the results are difficult follow... seems like the groups have always been analogous to paint running down a wall. Eventually, it stops and hardens, but still looks like crap.

The new system is even worse.

I recently joined the astronomical_spectroscopy to review the history of the L200 and holy smoke!... damn near immpossible. Yes I know, I could post a message asking the question and/or give Ken yet another e-mail, but I don't like to be a pest and researching something like the history of a device should be simple, as it should all be contained and easily findable within the group!

Enough ranting, back to work...

Yeah, even modifying the site screen isn't easy if you are still using XP..
I agree the "new" look certainly doesn't improve things...
But, what other freeware options are available to those who need a working support forum??

I see a business opportunity for some young enterprising individual(s) to do something similar to a "LinkedIn" Groups. At least you can tag a discussion to follow it and list everything you've been involved in. Not the greatest forums for "groups", but better than the current Yahoo! offering.

I hope someone at yahoo will see this thread and we may see an introduction of thread tools (wishful thinking I know)...

I don't use Yahoo Groups but we do use the mail for our Menshed. As secretary I often have to forward messages to all members, can't work out how to do it on this new set up. The idea of typing in 25 or more different addresses is a definite turn off. Apart from that when it first changed I had to "rescue" a full months incoming mail from the trash can. Not impressed. The old format worked really well, why change it? Oh, that's how programmers keep employed they do "upgrades".

Bill , the top left hand side of the opened message page are 4 arrows,
The 'single arrow' pointing left , that's the 'reply to sender'.

The middle '2 arrows' pointing left ,are 'Reply to all '.

And the right arrow 'pointing right' , is the 'Forward this e/mail ' icon .

The next icon along is the 'Delete' rubbish bin .
Hope this helps .
Brian.

Are you using Internet Explorer 11? I upgraded to it and every time I try to access Bintel, Explorer 11 shuts down!
No problem with Chrome, though.

hmmm... not good for me.

1) Firefox - fail
2) IE10 - fail
3) Chrome (on my Nexus 7) - Fail

I can log into my account, but when I go to http://groups.yahoo.com/neo I get the following:

Solved it.

While Yahoo let me log into my account, for some reason it thought that the password was correct *except* when in the groups section.

I reset the password via the Yahoo password link and set it to the same password as I've always used.

Now I can get back in. Must have been a communication glitch between servers (sync problem?).
