QHY & Fitts file reading

Hi,

I thought there were some threads on this but nothing in the search app, , As i have the QHY CCD now, I believe there is some software or program that will enable my PC to read 'Fitts', well, atleast Photo Shop to open them, I believe there is an 'add-on' (I think thats what it is) for PS that will allow this ?
Can anyone please post a reliable & easy (freeware) link or suggest a reliable Prog name that will enable reading of Fitts files, that would be very much appreaciated ?

Nebulosity will do what you need.

If you just want to work with a single fits file then you can use Fits Liberator to convert the file to a tif for editing in PS: http://www.spacetelescope.org/projec...download_v301/

Otherwise stack multiple fits in DeepSkyStacker and save the final image as a tif for editing in PS: http://deepskystacker.free.fr/english/download.htm

Both those programs are free and easy to install.

You can use DeepSkyStacker in processing mode to convert to TIF:

1. Launch DSS, click "Open picture file..." under "Processing" on the left, and find your FITS file.
2. Click "Save picture to file..." (again under "Processing") and specify .TIF as your file format.

I find the curves tool in DSS easier/faster to use than PS for adjusting astro imaging... I can give you a quick demo of how to use it over the weekend.

You could invest in PixInsight that will do the lot for you, including read, stack,calibrate and all your image adjustments etc.

To open the files directly in Photoshop, look for version 2.xx of Fits Liberator, or get Fits Liberator 3.xx as a stand alone version.

I think the 2.x plugin was for CS3, I tried 2.x with PS CS6 and it didn't work, pretty sure I installed it correctly.

Dave, I used to use DSS, years ago with Jpgs, but it seems to Play up bad with jpgs, so I moved over to RegistaX and it has been very good with Jpgs & Tiffs ever since. I have just deleted DSS and re-installed the newer version, so will give a try soon, cheers , ,
