My first pic

Hi all

I humbly present my first pic on IIS.

NGC 7293 - The Helix Nebula

Taken last new moon at Ten Chain Hill.

14 x 5 min subs processed (probably rather badly) in Pixinsight with some darks thrown in.

Nikon D4 DSLR : WO FLT132 : AP Mach1 mount

Thanks to Peter and the guys for setting me up with a scope and camera for guiding on the night.

Brett

You picked a hell of a target for a first photo :-) Nice work.

It's a tad on the green side, nothing you can't fix in photoshop. Shame to see the D4 responds as poorly to Ha as my D800 did.

Is the red glow around the obvious part of the nebula extending to near the edge of the image supposed to be there or is that just gradient/noise?

You've probably caught a trace of the outer shells, Brett. There is a lot of faint nebulosity outside the inner core.

Appreciate the encouragement. I used Alignmaster for the first time ever on that night and I think that did improve my polar alignment. The guiding was just a quick thing Peter and Phil and Geoff put together for me on the spot using some gear Peter had around. Then they showed me how to use PHD so it was a great night for learning and trying new things for me. And I got some data so I can start learning pixinsight. The fact that the images turned out ok for a first attempt at combining subs and darks was just a bonus!
