Solar Eclipse
Hi All,
I setup early on Monday afternoon at Golden Grove, east of Perth to take some images of the Solar Eclipse we had on Australia Day.
http://www.cwjames.info/astro/galler...ar-011-thm.gif http://www.cwjames.info/astro/galler.../solar-011.php
I managed to get some images of the Eclipse, however as you can see from the images at the end of the session, the clouds came in and I did not stay the evening to take deep sky images.
Did anybody else image this eclipse ?
Thanks
Chris

Hi Chris,
Nice animation! By the colour of the imag I'm guessing you were using analuminium filter?
The other images I have seen of the event have been from some ASWA members on the ASWA list (don't have links sorry, they were as attachments) - some good results there, and the two here on Ice In Space by myself and Trevor. I'm surprised I haven't seen more on the web, especialy here in IIS.
Roger.

Nice shots.
We didn't get any view of the sun at all during the evening/afternoon in Kal. Clouds most of the day.

Hi Rogerg / Anfo / Bluescope,
Thanks for the comments.
Rogerg, I checked out your posting as well and determined you must live in WA as well by your images of the eclipse. Checking out your web site confirmed this. Yes I am using a analuminium filter.
I decided to make a collage of some of the images which is at the url below.

Anfo, looks like you where unfortunate to have more clouds in Kal, I guess I can can my blessings that the clouds stayed away for most of the eclipse.
Thanks for the comments.

Hi Proudy,
I checked out your images. Nice to see somebody else who dispays the results as we see them in the Southern Hemisphere. I know we should correct them so they are display as see from the Northern Hemisphere, with North at the top of the image, but that's not how we see it, so South is actually at the top for us.
Its easy to see that are images where view from approx the same location, even down to the clouds at the end of the sequence. Very interesting.
I see you also have the 2006 transit of Mercury accros the Sun. I did this as well however I only had the scope a week when I imaged that so the results where limited. Nice to meet you.
Thanks for sharing with us.
Chris

Hi Neil,
Nice shots of the eclipse and on your website in general, interesting to see someone else in Perth using a GStar ... not that I have one, but the club I belong to does. Reasonable collection of telescopes!
Roger.

Hi Roger and Chris,
thanks for your comments and nice to "meet you".
I created the website for 2 reasons:
1) for my kids who I have 2 days per week so they can show their friends (educational value)
and
2) to fasttrack any budding GSTAR astrophotographers as I too have been helped by others sharing their info.
So Roger, your website is a great source of info. I am envious of your observatory but the info will greatly help when I get around to building one.
So the moral of the story is that i think publishing on the web helps everyone.
Look forward to imaging Lulin in Feb.
Regards,
Neil

Thanks. There's always the next step up to be envious of
