First image with full spectrum Nikon D7000

Finally managed to get my imaging rig to play nice, and got a few guided subs last night, before dew, meridian limits and a dead battery won out.

D7000 on a 10" Newtonian on a NEQ6
Guiding through ASI120MC through the finderscope

Basic processing through DSS and PS

did you apply flats to this one?
looks like you could turn the green and blue channel black points up a bit to get rid of the colours in the background.

No flats applied (it is cropped though) and my processing skills are fairly basic.

no worries Bob, really nice result.

you'll find that processing is sooo much easier if you take some flats and apply them through DSS (and you won't lose as much of the faint neb through processing).

they are fairly easy to capture with a dslr, i think on the nikons you select A and pretty much a mid range iso. good to do twilight flats on a large aperture like the 10" - have a look at http://www.iceinspace.com.au/63-211-0-0-1-0.html

Thanks again Russell. I have tried flats before (T-shirt method) and have had some decent results with my refractors. Never tried with the Newt, due to the size and my lack or organisation!!
I may try next time to see what difference it makes.
