My Grab&Go is the 80mm f5 Achro. Previously it was mounted onto a tripod in the overhead position with a counterweight arm out the front. Worked OK but was always a mission to get it to balance and stay at extreme positions. And it meant I had to carry extra weight and bits of course. So following on from and post a while ago I had a go at making a sidemounted system that balanced at the natural pivot point of the tripod. So this just shows how easy it was to make and it works perfectly. Much lighter, no slippage and will even carry the DSLR on the back if I tighten up the friction a bit.
Note in the front and rear shots how the tube ring mount bolts lines up with the pivot point of the tripod head. I've bought a new camera tripod so this can now be a permanent setup. Al it took was a short length of 50 x 50 alum angle courtesy Bunnings.
We're heading south in 4 weeks for a long weekend in wine country and hopefully dark skies. This will make it so much easier.
I may attempt to mount the Lunt in a simalar way but I think I will need a bit of opposite side counterweight. The 80 is so light and sits inside the tripod leg footpprint so no tipping issue.
