100 Hours on The Strand in Townsville

We are also doing the 4 nights here in Townsville, and had a great one last night with about 200 attending!! Only had 3 scopes and big binoculars on a stand, but will have a few more scopes tonight.
Public were rapt!!!!!!!

Phew, all over for 100 Hours of Astronomy, but HUGE SUCCESS up here. All the nights clear, and some great sights seen, despite being held on The Strand amidst the bright street lights.
We had about 1000 people through, Saturday night crazy with about 400-500 people .... with many never having looked through a scope!! They were astounded, shocked, amazed and moved by what they saw. It was great for us. and the public were very appreciative of our efforts.
Most nights we had about 6 scopes set up, and all had lines for most of night. All very tiring and draining, but worth it.
Many inquiries re our group, telescopes, some very tricky astronomy questions, and re our upcoming public nights that we are holding over the next 4 months ... in a darker site.
Shame it sounded a bit damp and cloudy for a lot of you .

Thanks Jen and jjj - our fledgling little website has had a lot more hits, and a few new members.
Yes, sooooo many questions about scopes, and where to buy them. They couldnt believe how cheap a Dob like mine was!!
We have more public events over the year, so we will see how many were really interested.

Hi Liz

This is excellent - what a great turn out you had!

We had a total of 63 for the Albury session - Wodonga got clouded out

Cheers Petra d.

Thanks Petra .. we were a bit overwhelmed with the turnout, and sooooo tired by the end, but very happy with the outcome.
We are having a public night once a month over the next 4 months, so will see how they go!!
Where we hosted the '100 Hours' was a very public area, so lots people around, even if they didnt catch our advertisments, then many others who did.
