High resolution AR1726 in white light -Brisbane 23 April 2013

Here is AR1726 captured with the ASI120MM CCD camera through a Tak Mewlon 180 F12 fitted with the Tak x1.6 Extender. At times I could easily see pockets of the solar granulation pop into view on the Notebook screen and this is the result of punching a 3000 frame AIV through AutoStakkert and selecting the best 300 frames.

The seeing was very variable with good pockets lasting 1 to 2 seconds scattered over the 1 min 49 sec recording.

I down sampled the 1280x960 frame to 1024x768 to tighten up the image quality and then took a full res crop to show a section of the original finished image.

Brisbane turned it on today, albeit for only 10 seconds.

I have tried white light with the130 and 3.8 filter but turns out crap every time compared to yours.

Hi Ralph

Once you have control over your equipment, technique and processing, even with the seeing being cooperative, there still remains a significant element of plain good luck!

For example, there were 300 frames that contributed to this image, harvested over a period of almost 120 seconds. Looking at the PC screen during the capture, I could see bursts of 1 or 2 second excellent seeing events, but only in sub-sections of the frame, and then it was back to indistinct mush.

I think I recorded maybe 12 AVI’s and only this one had that detail in the data. One other AVI almost made the cut but the remaining 10 or so were trashed, just not even worth the CPU cycles in processing.

I have the PC in my DIY portable observing hutch so essentially I can do all the preparation and focusing out of direct sunlight, in relative comfort, and this encourages me to persevere whereas in the open I may have packed up just due to glare, discomfort and heat induced fatigue.

My DMK51 is no good for that sort of capture. Frame rate is way to slow.
