Trying to make a silk purse from a sow's ear.

Hi,

The weather is still crap, and the moon's out anyway, so I decided to dig up some old data on M27.

Below is the specs of the image from 22/5/12.

Telescope 8” f/4 astrograph on a HEQ Pro 5 mount, orion mini guider.
Unmodded Canon 1100D at ISO 800.
16 x 120 sec subs ISO 800,
11 dark frames, 11 flat frames and 11 bias.
Stacked in DSS and post process in Phototshop.

The link to the original image.

I'm quite pleased of how much more I managed to squeeze out.

Perhaps not a silk purse, but definitely a vinyl wallet.

Cheers,

Justin.

That's pretty good i reckon considering its only 32 mins of integration time!

I am actually part way through a M27 project myself.

Yep, I've been keeping an eye on your M27, can't wait to see your finished image!
Should be a cracker going on your current form.

Cheers,

Justin.

Hi Justin,
I like the stars from the original image and the nebula from the second image.
Whatever personal preferences, it’s all together a solid M27.
Thanks for sharing !!!

Yep, had many different versions of M27, when the stars looked good the nebula didn't . One day I'll nail them both.

Cheers,

Justin.

Hi Justin,

Both versions look very good. (..I know all to well the downward spiral doing multiple versions leads to!..)

Great colour and detail.

Nice composition

Hi Justin,
That looks better, at least in my eyes ..
In PixInsight there are a couple of more processes that may (or may not) address the issue of fine details: deconvultion with (soft) deringernig.
If you have a chance - try it ..
