Excalibur 18" F3.5 is ready for First Light.......albeit while still awaiting Nexus and Noctua making the wheels system today...
Wow, Matt, where did you get this beauty made? I am interested in an 18" and looked at SDM, among other sites. Did you have it made in Australia? Is the mirror an Obsession one, or a Zambuto, for example?

It was made by a bispoke garage not meters from where Matt resides (his backyard)

Hello Richard, as Colin mentioned, it's a home made scope, though I did farm out the welding to 'Revolution Welding' in Queanbeyan and the powder coating to ACT Powder Coating Services also in Qbn.
the primary is an 18" F3.54 by Mark Suchting, lots more on the project here: http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/s...d.php?t=164454

My first telescope was a National Geographic 3in desktop Dobson, a 20mm and a 4mm eyepiece and a 2X Barlow
I then purchased this set used about two months ago
An NEQ6 Skywatcher mount and a Meade LX80 203.2 mm f/10
The Meade come with 26mm Super Plossl.
I found I was unable to left the NEQ6 due to my lung condition so today I purchased a new HEQ5 which I can lift.

Ahhh......might sound like a silly question but, um, you sure that monster will make it through the lounge room door???
Thanks guys, no plans to go into production nor to drop it into the lake very happy to finish it. Double width doors in the lounge room will see it under stars soon....
