Excellent way to start.
I have both 10 x 50 and 12 x 50 bins.
The 12 x 50s are a pair of old Zeniths and they are probably the best of the two for astro. Enough mag and feild to be useful and not too big to be unmanageable. Even with three scopes I still use them to search the skies and get me into the ballpark when hunting down elusive targets. I added some light shields ( bit of black plastic tube that fitted ) over both objectives to cut any side glare. Seems to help with contrast and stray reflections.
