Night Rook
La Niņa has made my recent imaging outings rather rare....but with 2022
rapidly approaching, the skies have magically cleared and
I did manage to add some more data over the last couple of nights with a new'ish camera to add last year's Horse-Head effort.
Taming a CMOS sensor is certainly a challenge, but dithering (via the guider)
and many sub-frames seems to do the trick.
The result is here
Happy New Year!

Thanks for your positive comments
@Mark. I assume you mean Alnitak? I do see a little scattering/diffraction by going further to the left of the imaged field,
but Alluna engineer their baffle tubes with some precision hence the effect is very minimal. It's a nice 'scope

Yes you can see how the gas cloud gets lighter on the left side of the frame. That's Alnitak impacting even from that distance. Good work for leaving it out of the frame
Great picture as well, Peter.

Hi Peter,
that's a great result - very sharp detail and nice tight stars.
The curtain in the background is a little weak -
perhaps you could post the Ha picture so we can see if it's more obvious?
cheers

Ta. Actually I'm happy with the processing. I stretched the living daylights out
of the h-alpha curves in this rendition but with wiser eyes think the result too un-natural.

Peter,
Your rendition is a clear standout - absolutely beautiful, Hubble like really.
Congtrats on a classic shot of the 'rook'!

The stretched Ha version is extraordinary, just the curtain alone makes it my choice, by far!. so detailed.

Thanks gentlemen...As I live on the southern fringes of Sydney, urban light spill and local weather patterns rarely allow me to to a multi=night run on this iconic target. Hence the, dare I say, painfully slow layering from one year to the next.
