I'm not sure if I'm doing this right or posting this introduction in the correct place but here goes...

I am new to the Ice In Space Community and just wish to intriduce myself.

I have purchased a second hand Reflector Telescope, it's a Bushmaster that the previous owner hadn't used much. It came with a Bag Of Lenses but I can't seem to get them to fit.

Can anyone give some advise?

As for your scope problems. What model scope is it? What is the diameter of the main mirror? Do you have a manual for it? do the eyepieces fall right in or are they too big?

Any photos of the scope and especially the focuser and eyepieces?

I have taken a coupla photos, took me a while to figure how to attach them,
I had to retake them coz they were too large.

That is an 76mm mirror and fl of 700mm.
The lenses look like 0.97" instead of 1.25"
Could you measure the ID of the lensholder on the scope?
And on the lens barrels?

hi Reuben, and welcome to IIS!

i don't know how much you know about telescopes so i'll start with the very basics:

1: are the eyepieces physically to big or too small to fit in the foccuser (aka: lens holder)?

eyepieces are made in three barrel diameters (the shiny tubes on each eyepice), so for the eyepieces to fit in the foccuser their size must match the inside diameter of the foccuser tube. the three sizes are 2inch, 1.25inch, and 1inch(well, technically 0.969 inch). basically a 1.25inch eyepiece is only compatible with a 1.25inch foccuser. so if the eyepieces are one of the three sizes, but the foccuser tube is another, then... well we'll guide you through that if the need arises.

2: do the eyepices fit in the foccuser, but are very loose?

if you measured the eyepieces, and they are the same diameter as the inside of the foccuser, then they will loosely fit. to make them fit properly a screw is used to hold them in place. the scew (or hole for a screw, if the screw has been removed) is located on the side of the foccuser, proberly about 5/10mm from the big hole at the front. i can't see a screw in the foccuser in the picture, but there is one sitting amongst your eyepieces, so that might be it.

Please forgive but I'm a Rank Amatuer...

There are several pieces, the I.D. of the Lense Holder (attached to the scope, Photo() is (using just a rule) 29-30mm.
I have lenses labelled. Barlow Lens 3x (this is just a hollow tube with a lense at the narrow end), H4mm, H12.5mm, H40mm and a long one labelled '1.5 x Erecting Eyepeice'. I also have a little cannister same as a 35mm Film Cannister and another item that looks like a Screw In (Green) Filter.

Hi Jarrod.

The only piece that fits the Focusser is the Barlow Lens 3x and this has a screw to hold something else but nothing else seems to fit this anywhere near close, i.e. Too Loose!

The screw-in green filter is a neutral density filter - designed to make really bright objects easier to look at. Used for the Moon. Can sometimes be useful for Jupiter. Does it have any writing on the side? Which of the other bits does it screw into? The barlow and the 4mm, 12.5mm and 40mm?

OK, that's my bit of advice done! For what it is worth!

The filter screws into all the lenses with the chrome end!

the 30mm ID of the lens holder equals about 1.25inches, so the metal (or silver plastic) tube sticking out of each eyepiece should be roughly 30mm in diameter.

if the silver eyepiece tubes are roughly 25mm diameter, i have a feeling that somewhere in your bag of eyepieces you will find a short plastic tube that is hollow inside. its an adapter that sits between the foccuser and the eyepiece. one end will fit inside the focusser, and the eyepieces will fit in the other end. see drawing below.

also try that method with the barlow lens. it might be made to double as an adapter.

Thanks for the advice Jarrod...

I think now that there must be an Adaptor Missing because as I said before the only thing that fits the focusser is the Barlow Lens 3x and everything else is too small to fit into this!

you could email bushmaster and ask them for the manual for that particular telescope, im sure they'd be happy to email it to you.
