Which Binning?

Hi all, just have a question on binning.

As CMOS cameras use software binning rather than hardware, am I likely to see any difference between capturing subs at 2x2 and getting them at 1x1 then binning at 2x2 in post processing?

I have a 294MM Pro which has the "unlocked" Bin 1x1 mode. Generally I use Bin 2x2 which is suitable for my usual setup, but if I go to a shorter focal length such as my 300mm camera lens, it is suggested that Bin 1x1 is a more "suitable" resolution. While this isn't an issue during capture, my post processing PC is ancient in computer terms, being around 12 years old. It struggles with stacking & processing the ~90mb subs and over 500mb stacked files.

So just wondering if there is any real difference between getting the data at 1x1 and converting them later & just capturing them in 2x2 from the start. One day I will upgrade my PC and it won't be such an issue, but looking at a workable solution for now.

Cheers,
Mark
