True North or South ?

On you phone you can get an app called google sky maps ...question…
where it shows south or north is it true north or south or
magnetic north or south any one know ?

Maps (and their grid) will always show true north (according to their chosen map datum, usually WGS 84). Compass functionality on phones can be switched to indicate either true or magnetic north.

AFAIK they all have a magnetic compass and a built-in magnetic declination map. An approximate position is sufficient. But I don't know of any smartphone that has a compass but no GPS.
