Rosette Nebula

Been a while since I have been able to image. Between poor Sydney weather and having another child, time has been short. I managed to squeeze in a few hours on Rosette Nebula the other day, adding to some data collected when I started on this target in late 2022.


Now approx 7.5 Hrs integration in SHO. Hopefully I can get a bit more on it before it disappears for the season.



ASI533MM Pro
AM5
Esprit 80
Chroma SHO filters


Stars removed and Ha stars added back in as I have not yet been able to collect RGB star data.

Excellent capture and nicely processed showing some good detail.
Those Chroma filters do a great job

Looks fabulous. Are you using PixInsight? If so it might be worth using Spectrographic Colour Calibration to correct the NB star colour. From what I’ve tried the corrected colours seem a match for the RGB but a much tighter NB profile.

Benjamin - trying to quote you but it isn't working for some reason.


I do have PI, although do the bulk of my PP in Photoshop. All I really do in PI is BXT and SXT. I did try SPCC once to correct the NB star colour but didn't have much luck. Might try again - is there a good tutorial you know of? Cheers

Keeps it simple. I think using SPCC is probably more successful with good data, more so that StarXterminator works better at removing only the stars. Recently I had some pretty poor data that meant some noise bled into the extracted stars, requiring some SCNR Green extraction in both the star image and the inverted star image (removing some magenta).

Thanks for the link, will check it out later tonight. The quality of the data is definitely there, since I posted this I've managed to add a bit more too so it's now at 10 hours. I did shoot some RGB stars, but rushed them and am not happy so still using the Ha ones. Hopefully SPCC can help Cheers

Oh and this video just came out. Not sure why he needs the formula for the combination of channels (SPCC seemed to do a good job regardless) but perhaps it’s more efficient.

Thanks, gave that a go and seemed to work well up until using SPCC on it, whereupon it failed dismally. The colour barely changed versus what the PixelMath formula in that video produced, eg on a star which is blue in RGB, it was yellow both straight after PixelMath and after SPCC (allegedly successfully) completed running on it.
