Want to lose some weight?
Thought I'd share a diet that's working for me. I was motivated to try
it by a family friend who has had stunning results, losing over 20 kg.
I'm absolutely chuffed with my results so far.
In 14 days I've lost 5.3 kilos, from 94.4 kg down to 89.1 kg
My top weight was back in 2004 when I tipped the scales at 104 kg.
I'm now the lightest I've been since I gave up smoking 25 years ago.
I've lost 2 inches off my waist and an inch off my thighs. My wife tells
me I've almost stopped snoring, and I touched my toes this morning!
My target weight is 82 kg, so I'm heading for the half way mark.
Now in what they call the 'Cruise' phase where the weight drops off
a little more slowly, but I hope to be there well before the end of July.
I should add that I've been walking about 4 km every day for exercise,
but I've been doing that for the best part of two years anyway.
I'm looking forward to the day I can look down and see my belt buckle!
It's called the Dukan diet, created by Frenchman, Dr Pierre Dukan.
Read all about it at: http://www.dukandiet.com/
I managed to pick up his book on the internet for $1 plus postage
at Abe Books: http://www.abebooks.com/ where I've also picked up
some really inexpensive astronomy books.
I'm allowed to eat as much as I like of the foods approved for each
of the diets four phases. So I'm never hungry, and thankfully I haven't
had any major cravings.
Anyway, this post may be totally ignored, like a couple of my posts recently,
but if any one is looking for a way to lose some weight, I can really
recommend this diet. I lost 2 kg in the first 2 days, now that's motivation!
Downsides? I'm gunna have to wear more clothes when I'm out star gazing!
Cheers
Chris

Thanks for sharing Chris.
I really should 'decide' to do a bit of dieting. I'm 95kg and 6'2" so I not gargantuan by any means. But that old belt buckle as you point out, is kinda hiding in there a little
Thing is, - I don't think I'm exactly a porker right now. Don't do bingin' or anything, but I can't imagine what I'd do if I had to survive on lettuce and tomatoes
Cheers,

Paul,
I've been eating eggs and bacon, lots of chicken in a delicious mustard sauce,
in other words lots of protein, and now I can eat as much vegetables as I like, just as long as nothing is cooked in oil. Last night mushrooms stuffed with cottage cheese, tomatoes and herbs, delicious! This morning fried eggs and bacon on an oat bran pancake, Yum!
I'm not a porker either, 173 cm, and I was 115 cm around the middle, I just got sick of the shape I was, and the thought of carrying around 12 kg less every step of the way suggested I would have more energy.
Another downside is that I'm going to need some smaller clothes, but there are quite a few Op shops around here!
Cheers
Chris

I need to lose some weight too, Chris. Might look into this Dukan diet-the trouble with most diets is they leave you feeling hungry, but this one sounds good.

6 kilos in 6 months, eating more, no diet, riding a bike 180k a week (age 58), not a great believer in diets the art to losing weight is to burn more calories than you consume, also there are 2 types of people those that can eat fat and not put on weight and those that can eat carbs and not put on weight.
Never the less well done

Actually with calories what you get in and what you get out is a bit of a myth. You're losing weight if you exercise regularly because your muscle mass increases and most importantly your metabolism speeds up and you become more efficient at burning sugar. If you did 180km a week for a while your body is now conditioned and very efficient at converting food into energy. Your blood can hold more oxygen, you don't get puffed up that easily and you recuperate faster. Your heart rate is probably dropping as well as a result. You'd find that if you stopped right now you'd probably wouldn't put on weight for many months to come until your body goes back into idle again and you start pilling up.

Thanks for that Chris, glad it is working for you.
It seems you must be about my size, I was 94K's, lost a few over the last month or so, and am now 89K's, and strangely enough some years ago I was right up there at 104K's, , how strange is that.

Hi,
With the Dukan Diet, it has worked for many. It is however low in potassium, an essential, so you may wish also to take a supplement or to pick out foods high in potassium, when permitted, like salmon or yellowfin tuna.

Thanks Geoff,
Vegetables are good sources of potassium also.
Spinach, Brussel sprouts both of which I love,
sweet potato, and sun dried tomato.
All these are on my list, plus the fish of course.
Cheers

I can understand that Barry, really sorry to hear your news.
When the weight is going in the right direction it's a real motivator,
I hope you find the same thing!
Cheers

I've recently shed some weight as well. I was 89 at my worst and have gone down to 75 (in just over a moth) just by lowering my sugar intake. The biggest change was a switch from sugar soft drinks to the diet ones, (I was having probably 3 cans a day, at 40g of sugar per can ), and since your body turns sugar into fat, it was obviously the real killer in my diet.
Not only did I lose weight but all my life I have had really bad mouth ulcers about once a month, after switching over, I get them very rarely, and it's usually when I've "treated" myself to something sugary. Increased energy levels and concentration ability are benefits as well.
Next goal is to take soft drink out of my diet completely, as I'm sure there can't be much good in the artificial sweeteners that are used in them. Congrats on the weight loss OP.

Well done Andrew!
I've never been into fizzy drinks, have always drunk Cottees No Sugar cordials, and they are approved on my diet.
Cheers

I got back into running. I used to be quite quick (5km in 18 mins) when I was in my 20s, but had put on a bit of weight. I managed to run 10km twice a week until I did my knee 4 weeks ago... now I am depressed and on crutches... no astro and no running for 10 weeks minimum!!! Torture!

Not good Grant, I know where you're at, having done my knee about 10 years ago, and an ankle 33 years ago. On crutches for what seemed forever! Both the knee and the ankle still give me trouble every now and again, but at 68 I'm not looking to do much running!
I hope you're back in your running shoes soon!
I'm now down exactly 6 KG after 16 days on this diet.
Cheers
Chris

Hi Chris, looks the goods, I found a quicker way to lose weight, a bit radical though. Have radiation in the mouth, you lose your taste and saliva glands, cuts back on food cravings I can tell you. Food is no longer interesting especially with no taste at all and no saliva to wash it down, there is always the constant fear of choking so one opts for sloppy stuff or none at all. Must admit, I lost 30kg on this radical approach though. Not really recommended, much prefer the ability to swallow and taste.
