Great! Best & most fair way!

Those random number generators online aren't really random & they'll never pick some numbers.

Hi hubble.
There's not a lot of difference between the two binoculars. The 20x80 has more magnification and a larger aperture for more light gathering. Both are too heavy to be hand-held effectively, so you'll really need a tripod to use them properly.
If you have any more questions about them or binoculars in general, I'd suggest asking in the Equipment forums so you can get more detailed answers.

Loving it.
Only got to Q10 so far, never really been big on space missions/nasa etc, just astronomy, so I'm researching and learning a lot too!

Still kinda stuck on question 1 tho.
I can find two discoverers (Edward Pigott and John Goodricke) before any of the given choices, maybe the question could be reworded?

Also question 6, Al's name should be spelled Shepard

EDIT: I gave an example rewording for Q1 but it gave away the answer to Q14

Fantastic! That's the whole aim of the quiz.. to get people learning and having fun while doing it.

If you have any specific questions/concerns about any of the questions, contact me via PM.

Hmmm .. really hard questions, but good fun.

Took six hours to find all the answers in my dusty old astro library. Must get an Internet connection sometime ...

It sure was, I also learned quite a few things. Took a few hours of researching, but passed away a few boring hours at work

The first one is always checked, so even if you just submit it, you get at least 1 right which enters you in the contest.

EDIT: You get even more!

Dear IIS Contestant Entrants

I submitted Q1 to Mike for the competition and I have sent Mike an e-mail to clarify the issues mention in the posts above.

If you have any queries, it is preferable to PM Mike so he can raise them with the person who submitted the questions. Otherwise, in your public posts you risk either:
  • directly revealing the correct answer,
  • maybe misleading others if you “think” you have the correct answer, or
  • by removing a couple of the possible answers as contenders, provide others with a clue as to the correct answer.
I don’t think that there is a 50/50 or ‘phone a friend option yet…

Cheers

Dennis

Well, no answers were given, just saying some are the first option and all first options are checked...so if you didn't even do the quiz and just hit submit, you at least get 1 entry.

Thanks RB for tidying up behind me!

It’s terrific to see everyone’s keenness and enthusiasm over the competition and with an amazing swag of fabulous prizes on offer, I fully understand that everyone wants to give it their best shot – and good luck to everyone who enters!

Mike asked me to prepare 10 questions and in doing so, I put in my best effort as an acknowledgement of, and with respect for, Mike’s trust, the professional standing of the site and last but not least, the future efforts of potential entrants.

However, in researching the questions and then distilling the list of potential questions down to just 10, my typing fingers did not faithfully follow the thoughts in my mind with the precision required, and for that I apologise. This has resulted in a somewhat ambiguous and incomplete wording of Q1. I’m confident that Mike will fix this up so no one is penalised for my lapse in editing the final list.

However, the competition is both free, and fun, so please don’t let my stuff up spoil this educational and enjoyable competition. I do hope that everyone is able to enjoy what is a fabulous annual event right here, on IceInSpace, the real centre of the Universe!

Cheers

Dennis

What so I can't call you up and ask which book you referenced it from at Qld Astrofest while basking in that glorious Queensland sun with that Greek statue physique

Hehe, he was referencing my post
I thought I had avoided giving away the answer, or even hinting at it. Even cleaned up after myself when I realised I had provided the answer to another question by accident.

I agree tho, I should have PM'd Mike, sorry, I totally forgot that PM's existed!

EDIT: When the comp is over will there be a list of correct answers?
Might jot-down what I selected to see where I went wrong later.
