Sunspot 3081 from Brisbane, 14th Aug 2022

Here is my first go at the sun. I'd bought a solar filter about 3 years ago and hadn't really had the chance or the enthusiasm to use it until today. Let me say, wow, now there's a whole other level of complexity involved in imaging the sun. The biggest issue for me today was focusing. I must watch some YouTube videos to get some hints and tips.

Anyway, this is sunspot group 3081.

Thanks for the link, Martin. It looks like a Scheiner disk might be the go, to help with focusing.

Not a bad first shot at all Andrew!
The biggest issue with solar imaging is the seeing. If the seeing is good, the focusing is much easier. Welcome to the solar addiction

I fitted SW accura focus motors to all my solar scopes.
I also upgraded, where possible, to 10:1 focusers.
That allow the precise control you really need to get best focus.
