Sun images from Melbourne 13 August 2022

Very unexpectedly there was blue sky and sunshine when we woke this morning. Interestingly by 2.30pm this afternoon we had a thunderstorm and a considerable amount of hail, enough to lie on the ground for about an hour.

There were eight active regions visible including the newly named AR 3081. The close up image of four active regions AR 3079, 3074, 3077 and 3071 includes some spectacular filaments running between the regions. There are also a couple of impressive prominences. Overall a very interesting sun today and we were very pleased to be able to see it

Full disk Ha images taken with Daystar Solar Scout 60 double stacked with Lunt 40 etalon, ASI178MM camera and 0.5 reducer.
Close up Ha images taken with 72ED, Solar Scout Quark and ASI178MM.
