to the club Bushy. Can you provide a bit more info, time of night, direction and altitude. even just roughly will help. There is a fabulous globular cluster in Ara, NGC6397
It was about 2130 hours last night in the S.E. sky I do not have any horizon becase of some large trees but i would guess arround 1100 o'clock direction it was between pavo and ara
Ok there are three easily found Globular Clusters in that area. NGC6397 which is tucked in underneath Ara, NGC6584 which is about halfway between Ara and Pavo and NGC6752 which is just east but right beside Pavo. Have a look at the starry night image, it will give you a better idea. If you've not used Starry Night before the objects with the green rings around them in this image are Glob clusters (not all clusters are marked with rings though)

Hello Bushy and welcome.
Do you know what magnitude it was? Have you been observing for long?
I'm a member of the Newcastle Astronomical Society (NAS) and we have viewing nights every month we would be happy to answer any questions you might have and show you around the sky.
Here's our site...http://www.nas.org.au/
It was not ara I was looking at but I did find NGC 6397 it was very dull and I could just make it out.
I went to NAS veiwing night in May but had to leave early but I will be back.
But thanks to all for there help.
