Any thoughts on Askar 185Ed APO

Honestly, I feel it is over priced. New scopes in the current market are way over priced, this is my opinion having bought very nice scopes(new) for half that in years gone by. If you can buy an equivalent second had scope from a seller on the Forum. I realise that the Askar 185 is a triplet (of unknown composition), but looking at sample images it does not seem to be any better than say a Skywatcher 180 Doublet, or an Esprit version. The Skywatcher 180 with the Esprit focuser set up is a real gem ( I have one). Just my opinion.

Where are you going to find a Skywatcher 180mm refractor….. or an Esprit 180?

The Askar 185 is a big scope but seems to be pretty good for the $$$ even though it’s best corrected in the red end of the spectrum….

My bad, I should have been referring to the 150, as the 180 does not exist.

Sounds like it's pretty good but the tests show it is somewhat flawed.

Only you what level of perfection you are willing to pay for. In the world of bang for buck it sounds like its a good deal.

But it's no Tak or AP scope. Then again Tak don't make a 185mm APO and neither does AP. So you would be looking at a TEC or Agema or Stellarvue 180.

Greg.
