G'day, New Member from WA
Hi everyone, just signed up a few days ago. Have been a keen astronomer since I could see Been a while since I have actively been into the hobby due to new job, moving location, etc. Keen to get back into the swing of things so just ordered a Meade 10" LX90 ACF to replace my old 4.5 Newtonian and now impatiently waiting for delivery and to finally get to use the new scope.

Hi, and welcome to IIS
You're going to love your new scope...I have its smaller brother, the 8". The optics are excellent and it's a very easy scope to use.

Hi Carl, no problems encountered with your scope? The eyepiece kit ok?
How long do the batteries last for? I have been looking on ebay at the 12v dc adapters.
Might do the focuser 'jar' mod too.

Nope...works like a charm. I had it running on the D cells for a whole night...the scopes don't draw too much current, but you're much better off getting a 12V adapter to suit, or if you're away from home a good sized sealed gel battery. The ep's are good. Although a nagler or ethos wouldn't go astray (even if the wallet does!!! )

Yup, the 25ft car lighter cables look like a good thing to get too.

Great Ken, I'm sure it will give some impressive views. Why not fix a modded web cam to it like a Logitech Quickcam Pro 9000? Search around..........

I just bought another scope before I even got the LX90. Got a 10" Skywatcher Dob for the other half should arrive in a couple of days so it will tie me over just nicely.

Hi Ken and
Some nice gear your getting yourself there. Enjoy, and I hope the skies stay clear for you. But you know what the chances of that are when your scope arrives don't you.. As soon as the credit card goes "click clak" (oops this is 2010, "beep"), the rain clouds hear it and down it comes. I had to play with my first scope indoors for more than a week. Okay, I still do it, I like to - there I admit it.

Hi Suzy,
Murphy law defiantly knows the best time to pay a visit! The sky was beut here tonight, a bit windy but nice crisp sky, Jupiter looked great in the binos and can only hope it clear when the scopes arive. It will prob be rubbish
I expect to be playing with my LX90 for some time inside learning the autostar system and connecting my laptop to it and the web cam.

ARRGHHH!!! it only been one week and I'm going nuts wating for my telescope.
Now the Dob I was getting my missus which I thought might come by this weekend is going to be delayed for at least two weeks. She is going to be one un-happy camper!
At least we can both go nuts waiting for

I feel for you Ken .
You should use this time to get your obs list sorted out for your first session.
I also read up/google the astro physics on the objects I'm viewing to give me an added wow factor. After I've viewed them, I then go back and compare them to the piccies to keep improving my seeing for detail. The more you look and stretch those eyes, the more you will see.
That's how I waste away bad weather (scope waiting in your case) and put it to good use anyway.

That the problem! I have a big list and I keep doing too much study and research and not enough viewing! Well any viewing in my case...oh a bit of Bino work, but always doing that.
