Just read about this photo comp in the weekend australian, I am sure there are lots of photo comps but I dont know much about them, but these prizes seem pretty decent.
I immediately thought of the many excellent shutterbugs amongst the members of this fine forum http://www.theweekendaustralian.com.au/photocomp/
EDIT: Just realised you got to have people in the shots LOL - should of read it bettter

Entrants must submit a photograph that they have taken in Australia and show people engaging in an experience that can be had on holidays in Australia.
Entrants must indicate the category that they would like their photograph entered into.
Entrants with more than one category indicated on the one entry will be withdrawn.
Entrants may submit multiple separate entries but can only win one category.
Photographs will not be returned. No correspondence or negotiation will be entered into on this subject.
Entry photographs are not to have been published in any other media anywhere in the world.
and for digital entries:

Images over 2 MB WILL NOT be accepted. Only JPEG images will be accepted
Mike , it was particularly your very nice recent 'cities' and 'beaches' series type shots that made me think of mentioning it here
and Good Luck :-))
(I might have to make an effort and find a shot somewhere too - they could of had the competition in summer and made it a bit easier spose the northern states will romp in the beach category?)
seeing its been cloudy and wintery for so long now here in adders, and while on the subject of touristy stuff I was looking thru some holiday snaps (didnt take many unfortunately) from early this year taken from Robe and Beachport on beautiful S/E coast SOUTH AUSTRALIA (hehe sorry about emphasis vics, but its still ours even if you seem to own most of it now), usually called the Limestone Coast.
In the distance, in the shot with my missus taking a shot of her own is empty 90 mile!! beach (exept for the usual armies of 4WDers?) - go a bit further nw and your in the coorong.
my point is, is its a bit damn hard to get people in our beach shots as they are mostly deserted
drool on UK beach lovers
Along with the photo, they'll need to provide 150 words describing what inspired them to take the shot and the experience they were trying to capture. Submissions should include details of exactly where and when the shot was taken and how the location was reached.
I used to work in the magazine production biz and I can honestly say the standard of some of the portrait/landscape etc pix being posted at this forum are of a very, very high standard and very "artistic".

all thanks go to cheryl for puting it in tho (god love her!). if she hadn't then I'd have not entered at all!
