SBIG acquired by Diffraction

Maybe they'll finally fix the STXL/AO-X issue that people keep whinging about on the Maxim group...

Interesting indeed.
I downloaded Maxim on Tuesday after CCDsoft got argumentative with calibration (works fine with CCDOPS) and after an evening cozying up with the help guide I was up and running last night in about 10 mins or so and guiding really well with the integrated chip all night, didnt miss a beat.
I hope it works out well for them.

What I find a worry is the email they released about it says the key staff will remain for the aquasition period the takeover but doesnt say if they will remain afterwards. Will there be job losses afterwards?
Lets hope it does work out well, and that it will mean access to more resources, more R&D and even better products.
When my ISP Internode was taken over by Iinet there was some apprehension among users but it soon turned out to be a positive move, Iinet installed their own ports and backhaul at my Wallsend exchange, instantly banishing slowdowns I used to get with the underprovisioned Telstra backhaul. I can even online change my ADSL connection profile, for things like Low Latency or a more agressive speed, as well as Annex M allowing faster uploads.

The "acquisition of the assets" wording implies that it wasn't the company that was purchased but the intellectual property, inventory, etc. That doesn't mean they won't rehire some of the people, of course, and key staff are normally locked in for a period. We'll have to wait and see how it pans out.
Cheers,
Rick.

I'm sending my camera away on Monday. Or, had planned to. Better check with them if they'll still fix it!

Doug George posted saying they planned to keep doing repairs in California so I think you should be fine, H, but it doesn't hurt to confirm.

Interesting news, the parent company Aplegen, Inc. ownership of SBIG didn't last long . Wonder if Diffraction Limited will bring out a Planetarium program to compete with Skyx .

I'll be interested if this has any impact on the device drivers they've got or have planned... I just hope that they don't drop the small amount of Linux support they do.

At least SBIG got its product range complete whilst with Apglen.
With no real advancements being put out in the market in CCD sensors there hasn't been a new "must have" camera for a while from anyone. So the product range is likely to be stable for some time. True Sense sold as well so I would not expect any new CCDs of ground breaking nature from them anytime soon. It'll have to come from someone else.

Greg,
The kaf50100 is new, coupled with an FSQ106 or similar would be killer. I wonder if SBIG will release it...

Hmmm... sensor size is great and pixel size would be good for short FL but the QE isn't exciting and read noise is pretty bad. I'm trying to talk myself out of a new camera here

KAF50100 may be interesting. 50% QE, it would be like a large KAI11002. Smaller wells though. I am a bit done with small well cameras though. KAF39000 images I have seen are not impressive.
