Companion 40Ah Rover Lithium Power Station

I have spent some time looking for a portable power station to run my telescope and other accessories. I found the Companion Rover unit which has a lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) battery with a rating of 40Ah @ 12.8volts. This gives me plenty of reserve power.

The RRP is up around $829 but some stores are currently offering the Companion unit for $559 I bought one yesterday !

It can be recharged using the AC adaptor included, by 12volt input (using the cigarette lighter adaptor - also included) or by direct feed from a solar panel (it has a built-in MPPT controller).

It weighs about 6.5 kg

I ran my gear for around 40yrs for a grand total of $30. Used car batteries from my nearest auto leccy, usually free, and generally lasted around 3 or so yrs.

I spent years carting around sla batteries which were heavy and a real pain. Didn't cost much.

3 years ago I spent $400 on a LIPO4 battery, it weighs only 2kg, i can run in nearly flat and it still gives 12+ volts. It powers my equipment for a few nights without recharging. One of the best astro purchases I ever made.

Nice thing with this one is the built-in solar controller which will cost you another couple of hundred dollars if bought separately.

How much power do you need?

Looks a good value option with inverter, although older technology Li ion battery. Also they only offer a 1 year warranty.
