Maidenwell Astronomy Course
Hello, just found this great site.
A quick question - has anyone done the Maidenwell Astronomy Course? I have loads of books, star charts, etc etc but I would like a little basic guidance, particularly how to start finding my way around the sky!
I have my trusty 10x50 Binoculars, and Skywatcher 90mm Refractor, and have just recently bought a Meade LX90 8" with Auto Star.
Thank you.

Hi Xina
Welcome to IceInSpace!
I haven’t taken the Maidenwell Astronomy Course, but I think that the Maidenwell Astronomy Observatory is owned and operated by Jim Barclay. I have only met Jim a couple of times, several years ago, when he lived in Brisbane.
I understand that Jim has a long association with SE Qld astronomy clubs and during that time, has always been committed to educating the public about astronomy, so I would expect the courses to have good material as Jim is very knowledgeable. Sorry I couldn’t be of more help that that!
Cheers

Xina,
I know Jim really well and he provides a comprehensive course. With course materials. Worth your while. Jim is a good teacher.

Welcome Xina
I don't know anything about the course you are looking at.
There are a number of courses available on line up to a PhD if your that keen.
An example is at http://www.jcu.edu.au/school/mathphy...tificate.shtml
Good luck exploring the education options.

Thank you for all your replies! I have had a couple of emails from James Barclay and he does seem very helpful. I just wanted to see if anyone had actually done the course.
As for asking questions, oh dear there are so many I don't know where to begin. Think it's back to the research.
Thanks again.

Xina, my wife and I did the course with James 2 years ago,and we highly recommend it. The course(then) was an all day theory lesson in the Maidenwell Hall, followed by the "practical" at night, in the grounds of the Maidenwell Observatory, with Jim helping those with scopes,to set them up. DENIS
