Was cleaning out the shed and found a forgotten box of colour slides. included were some shots from the Edinburgh air show of about 1970. They include some of the more interesting RAAF aircraft from the period and also some of the RAF aircraft that used to regularly visit during the Blue Steel days.
Was glad to find some Lightning images - once watched one of these take off from Darwin, turn on its tail with full afterburners, and head through the sound barrier in a vertical climb (that's what the pilot claimed). Astonishing brute of a thing.
Quality is not up to modern standards but good enough to show what was there (in those days, the light meter on my East German camera did not work and it didn't have a rangefinder). The emulsions had developed hundreds of mould patches, but there was enough image left to restore with clone stamp.

I think that we leased the Phantoms while waiting for the F111s. Yes, the V bombers were deadly serious machines and impressive to see in flight. I think that particular Vulcan would still have been an operational Strategic bomber, but the Victors would have been the tankers that got everything out here.

thanks Col. Yeah, I hadn't realised how much these shots show a transition period. The RAAF was undergoing major changes in hardware and the RAF aircraft represented the end of an era. Pity you missed this collection I guess, but there was some really interesting gear that came along after.
