NEQ6 to Synscan App via EQDIR - Not talking

Hi Folks
I have some connection issues.
I have an old EQ6 and a LyncAstro EQDir cable

Yonks ago when I tested it it worked then randomly one night didnt.

I shelved it.

Come back today, new laptop, new windows install using the synscan app it outright refuses to connect to the mount using the EQDIR cable.
I have checked comports, baud rates, physical connections, 12v, changed com numbers. All is leading the the cable being faulty I just cant understand how as it shows up and shows a com port.
Mount works with the hand controller and also works with EQmod and PC direct mode. I'm no expert but am confident ive covered the basic stuff as ive dabbled with similar adapters of the years plus have 20 years IT experience.

Has anyone had any quirks with the synscan app and a EQDir cable?

I rather use the synscan app because to me EQmod is confusing and archaic but more so I am concerned about future changes if perhaps I were to get an ASI Air unit, would I run into same issues.

I have spent since saturday trolling ice in space, cloudy nights and other forum. Ive not ran the app as administrator yet, thats the last trick to try

Hi Steve,

Have you installed a serial-usb port driver, such as the Prolific one? I always ran it on Win 10 and despite some saying you don't need it on Win 11 I've never been able to connect a SW mount without it.

Cheers,
Mark

In addition to Mark’s excellent recommendation, also check your USB Driver power management
See attached ( my procedure is for Win 10 but should be similar for Win 11 )

Worth checking

Cheers

Well in the end I gave up.
It has to be the cable. I read on other forums someone had exactly the same issue. worked then randomly didnt.

I just went with pc direct and used greenswamp server instead of eqmod, that seems good though stellarium crashes.

how annoying however successful

Cheers, i'll sus it out on the weekend.

I do feel GShub takes and owns com ports because after setting it in GS I can then no longer see the comport in EQmod unless I give the com port a new number.

Next step is to have stellarium stop crashing when alt tabbing, thankfully I can just go to with it, then close it and tracking keeps on tracking. saves battery too
