Meade LDX75 mounts

Hi all - another nube question.....

What are the pros and cons of the "new"/current LDX75 mount ?

Value for money ? I was considering a 10" tube for one with the intention of imaging a little later.

All help appreciated.

Thanks

V

Well, V, I'd hesitate before putting a 10" scope on an LXD75. I have one and it copes with an 8" Newtonian, but begins to struggle a bit when you add camaras, guide scopes and other bits and pieces. I would suggest a HEQ5Pro as a better bet.

The HEQ5 has about the same load bearing as the LXD75, if its for visual, it will be fine, for imaging, you wil need an EQ6

The '75 is a reasonably good mount, the PEC and the noise is worse than skywatcher mounts, but they are still not bad.

Duncaan's right if you're stuck on the idea of a 10". The LSX75 would do for vusual, as would the HEQ5. But an HEQ5 would handle a smaller widefield scope with all the bells and whistles for imaging - say a refractor - a triplet up to say 80-100mm that would do quite well for imaging. I've seen some of the stuff AnexN from thes forums has done lately with almost exactly that combo and they are terrific. SO maybe the thing to do is to resist the aperture fever and come in a bit lower down that scale.

Peter is right, i used an ED80 on my HEQ5 Pro, but that was it, had to up it to an EQ6 for using an 8" reflector
