Congratulations on first light Mike!

This thread has been a great read following you on your journey setting up the observatory. Many happy imaging nights are no doubt ahead.

Thanks guys and Peter, nice to know, glad it has been entertaining, I too have enjoyed some of the the build threads on IIS over the years, so much fun watching other peoples projects and dreams come to fruition ...while there has been a few, I think Joshua Bunn's incredible Eiffel like tower mounted observatory, is the most amazing one so far, looooved watching that progress! he is a bloody construction genius..it's the one observatory I'd love to visit the most

This wonderfully astro-friendly East coast weather , that has put pay to any astronomy on the whole eastern and south-eastern parts of the country and is causing flooding and deluges everywhere...has hit as some significant snow up at Eagleview, some 17cm at one stage earlier today

Mike,

Where’s Olaf ? ( gotta bunch of grandkids )

The forecast for the rest of the year in the east of Oz looks ordinary to say the least 😢😤

Enjoy the Snow , it’s better than a rain bomb I suppose

Cheers
Martin

Its certainly a cool novelty, especially being up there while the snow is falling outside, quite magical really.. but I will be more settled once I am producing some quality deep sky images again. At least it is mostly just the weather setting that pace now ...and I was encouraged by the seeing on first light night, hope that is a regular occurrence

Looks like the scene outta Empire Strikes Back! Very cool, to say the least. I’m sure Mick you will be in your element sooner rather than later. The sky won’t disappoint at that elevation I’m tipping.
All the best with your obs - it’s a rippa.

Anthony.

I hope so, there is even a nice big open field, next to the observatory, for any small UAP's to land and I will likely be the only witness, so no one will believe me anyway ...unless I manage to take a grainy, slightly out of focus, image of it

Congrats on Eagleview gracing the pages of Australian Sky and Telescope. Your obs features on page 9 of the Nov/Dec edition in an ad for AstroWorx, ScopeDome and Sidereal Trading.

Maybe the Canberra Times could do an in-depth story? (It's not like they're busy reporting any actual news or anything).

Just went through 17 pages of posts and what you have achieved in little under 12 months is an inspiration to us all, that most will look upon with envy. Now all the hard works done no doubt we will now see more of those magnificent images you delighted us with in the past but you do know you've made your goal posts a little higher. Well done

Thanks Professor, yes, it was in the previous edition too, still can't quite believe its mine when I look at that photo Very happy to help shine a light on a fabulous, developing Aussie astro business, trying and succeeding, to make manufacturing of quality astronomy gear, a genuine reality in Australia!

Thanks a lot Trevor, its been a fun journey but I wish the weather would start to cooperate more now . There have been some significant observatory and telescope projects detailed on IIS over the years, many of them involving even greater logistical endeavour than mine but I am glad you found my journey over the past 12 months interesting and I hope the envy you describe translates to others having a shot at constructing their own observatory

He he, yes, I am feeling a little pressure (fun pressure ) to deliver some good results ...at the moment however, I just want to complete an image, aaany image

I have been complaining recently about the La Nina related cloud coverage over the East coast of Australia in recent times and while I am still displeased, like many others.... I can hardly contain my excitement and want to balance this, moisture driven ill will, a bit

So, despite the cloud issues, we are all having to contend with, I have never the less managed to get an image underway and in fact have a completed version ready to go..but still hoping, even with the current lean pickings, to get just a bit more exposure...we will see?

I am delighted to be able to confirm a significant improvement in atmospheric seeing conditions, compared to my previous site, much closer to Canberra and at 850m less altitude, the extra altitude and more remote location, are making an amazing difference, I can hardly believe it These improved conditions have been noted every session so far, both visually through the eyepiece on quite a number of occasions and in several imaging sessions to date, very cool

That's all, just needed to get it out...I feel better now

Stay tuned

Mike
