The best views from my house are to the south, and my favourite targets are dark nebulae, so there's no better place to point than Chamaeleon. This is the Chamaeleon I cloud, apparently the closest star forming region to us. Lots of interesting objects - reflection nebulae, lots of dark nebulae, a couple of Herbig-Haro objects, some distant galaxies, and even a dog. I wasn't expecting to find a dog!
