Happy Dance

Hi all

My 8" dob arrived (delivery way under 24hrs-Bintel) Happy! Happy! Joy! Joy! Opened the boxes, stood back, and both said in awe "OH my God!" It just seemed too daunting...

However step by step, put it together in about 30min (only one washer & one screw left over!).. Took it outside, portability wise it was the right choice and no problem to move. Thought we should christan it but stopped short of hitting it with bottle of champagne and did a 'happy dance' around it for five min. Three neighbour hood children joining in..laugh)..

Huey was smiling on us, its been cloudy all day but the moment the scope went outside the sun shined on us. Im going back outside to align it and I still have to put the telrad on (not quite sure where, but if anyone has advice that would be brilliant.)

I just wanted to thank all who gave us their time and advice on choosing..

Ta heaps
Snug

Please be super careful during daylight. Don't point it at the sun. Remember the finderscope as well - it will focus the sunlight into a blinding beam.

Especially don't turn your back on the scope if children are around.

Sorry, I'm sure you read all these warnings, but we don't want such a good hobby to be associated with damaged eyes, so better to be safe therefore I'll accept the charge of stating the obvious!

Ah Erick

Stating the obvious is fine..after i started trying to align (it did take me a while & they soon got bored) all returned to their cubby houses...and yes i am aligning it towards the east ...sun long gone the way of the west behind gum trees at my back...but thank u for reinforcing that message..tis good reminder

Tis safely in garage until nightfall

Well? Snug, how's the views???

You must have seen about 90 of the Messier catalogue by now, you've had it for about 12 hours

A report would be nice so we can help you with any problems or just sit back and clap.

Hey Snug,

There's nothing better than opening that box with a shinny new telescope inside, I'm sure you felt like a kid at Christmas.

In regards to the Telrad, I would put it between the focuser and the finder so that you can go straight from one to the other.

Hoping that those clear skies stay as they are for you.
