Real Beginner!

Hey all, I'm brand new to IIS and only just recently got into astronomy!

I have always had an interest in Astrophysics etc. but for some reason i have never looked up! Untill recently that is!

I'm currently working with 10X50 Bino's, no tripod though I did manage to catch a smudge of the Coalsack neb right next to Crux, now I'm hooked!

I have seen some of the pictures posted by other members and i love them!

I guess the reason for my post is to say hi to all, and just inquiring the best way to get in touch with astro clubs in my area! (Vic, south east 'burbs)
I'm chomping at the bit to take a look thru something bigger (and mounted!)

thanks all!

Hi Rohan,
Welcome to IIS!

I'm a recent joiner of the forum too. I've just joined the Astronomical Society of Victoria. www.asv.org.au

There is also the Mornington Peninsula Astronomical Society.
www.mpas.asn.au

That's all I know regarding Astro Clubs.
Hope this helps.

G'day spyder-webb28, .

I've had binocs like yours for a long, long time, and still regularlly use them! I need to as the the light pollution in Sydney means it's the only way to see all the stars listed in star charts, .

You could get your hands on a tripod mounting adapter for your binoculars. Don't undersestimate their worth as a telescopic instrument. They provide a wide field view no other telescope can provide. They really, really come into their own at a dark sky site!

Enjoy your experiece here, and don't be affaid to ask Q's.

Mental

Hi Rohan and welcome.

The Astronomical Society of Victoria have their club-rooms in East Burwood. (Are you anywhere nearby?) You can check out their web site http://www.asv.org.au/
Very active body covering all aspects of astronomy. They also run an excellent one year course for newcomers.

Enjoy your new hobby.
Robert
