Thanks for the heads up Dave! I love Pentax cameras and my *ist DS, but I find the lack of astronomy support for the Pentax range quite frustrating, whereas most DSLR related SW caters for various Nikon & Canon DSLRs.
However, Mike Unsold (author of ImagesPlus) did post a recent request for raw images from Pentax, Fuji, and Olympus DSLRs as he is building a library of raws for those cameras. Maybe the thin end of the wedge and a sign of things to come?

If this was supported by DSLRFocus or MaximDSLR it'd perhaps have a real shot in the astro world. A mate of mine was talking to be this morning about buying one, he decided against it because of the lack of any support for any pentax cameras by these products, probably will change as the Pantax ages.
When looking at the sensor specs it states:
"12bit (RAW) x 3 colors"
What does this actually mean? Is it individual R, G, B frames or colour temps.?
LOL read through the manual, 3 colours simply means colour, sepia and b&w. Here I'm thinking DSLR have come along way and will now output separate R, G, B frames. What a fool I am. I'll stick to the STL11k for the time being.
Jase, if it's true, it's no gimmick. 12 bits x 3 colours means 12 bits per colour - 12 bits for red, 12 for blue etc, or 36 bits per pixel. That is excellent IM(admittedly naive)O. A lot of cameras give just 12 bits per pixel - all three colours RGB compressed down to just 12 bits afaik. The full res raw files are going to be pretty big though - sg like 40+MB.

The K10D can display two Histogram displays. A “Brightness Histogram” and the “RGB Histogram”. So, it looks like you were on the money Jase.
Hmmm. Interesting. Thanks for the info Steve and Dennis. So technically, if it can split the R, G, B channels into separate histograms... potentially they could be made into three individual RAW frames/files. Then you could load them into PS to adjust them accordingly. Just add a luminance layer and your done. You've got yourself a LRGB image.
It's not really the "splitting" and post-processing/manipulating that matters. You can do that with any digital image. I'd be more curious about how much information the camera actually captures and stores. If it's anywhere near 36 bits per pixel, that sounds excellent.
Ooo yeah. 36 bits per pixel would be nice. I was more concerned about the channel splitting process and whether any clipping would result in such a process.
