Tight Scotsman's cleaning stuff

Concerning the cleaning of optical equipment, we have had a lot of dust come through SE Qld in the last few weeks. Does anyone else use Isocol the stuff in the green bottle with the crocodile on it and pledge grab-its, or does one have to buy some brand name stuff.

I use it (Isocol) on a semi-regular basis. If you've got nothing else to use it will do. It does leave a tiny little bit of a residue but if you rinse thoroughly you should be rid of most of it. But do dilute it first - rough amounts, at least by half but even a 1:5 dilution will work ok.

Don't know about the grab-its. Should be ok for the tube or other outside bits but wouldn't try it on any optics. It would pick up the gritty stuff and then you'd drag it across and scratch your optics.

Isocol, diluted down, is good enough for cleaning computer screans and such
don't know whether it is good enough for optics

you want the PURE stuff - Isopropyl

some chemists will sell it to you - some won't

geoff

@ Duncan

Filtered tank water for cleaning, and an old well worn t-shirt for wipe downs, it's lint free and very soft.

Maybe he's referring to himself, not to Scots in general.

I have to agree with Duncan, I'm a Scot as well, and I'm over that stereo type. To me it's like saying white men cant jump or black guys are stupid. It's equally offensive.

I'm assuming though, that Tom is a Scotsman and is using it much like the black americans call each other nigger or neggro, it disarms the insult so....

Hey, I'm 1/4 Scot! I'm disarming, I'm disarming...

I remember back in 2002, at Edinburgh Castle for the firing of the cannon. Tour guide cracks the same joke every day. Traditionally cannon fired 9 times for 9:00, 10 times for 10:00 etc. These days the cannon is only fired at 13:00 but they only fire once because, well, it's Scotland.

Tight Scotsman's cleaning stuff

Thank you for all your comments. I was unaware that I had caused a discussion on finance and ethnicity, yes I am Scots, from Aberdeen. I will purchase the proper cleaning equipment from a reputable supplier, I will just have to do some overtime next week. Thank you
Regards
Tom Summers.
