Work Experience 2013

Hey guys!

Have a bit of an off-topic question but an important one for me!

I have been interested in space for as long as I could ever remember and I've always thought there could be no better job then one in this field!

Year 10 work experience is just around the corner and dates need to be arranged. But... I've also come to notice that the 'space research' side of careers is on the small side in Australia, let alone letting kids do work experience there.

If anyone could recommend anything for me it would be highly appreciated!

Thank you!

Clear skies!

Australia has a very limited industry involved in space, what we did have died when Woomera was closed down. May I suggest you look at the Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) which I believe allows Year 10 students work experience.

Yes unfortunately..

Ill be sure to check it out! Thanks

A previous year 10 at my school managed to get a week at the Mount Stromlo Observatory in Canberra. I filled out an application about a month ago and waiting upon response to that!

Meanwhile I decided to check anything else out.

Contact the Australian Space Research Institute at http://www.asri.org.au/.
They may be able to point you in the right direction.

If you are looking at Canberra then the Research School of Astronomy & Astrophysics (RSAA) at the Australian National University (ANU) has a limited places work experience program.

You could also contact the Tidbinbilla Tracking station which is also close to canberra, I had 2 friends who worked there as tour guides 10 years ago and i remember them taking on a few work experience kids.

Here is a website with every Tracking station, observatory ect.
Good Luck!!

Yes Josh, you have to submit a 1000 word essay to IIS detailing your week at Stromlo

Well at least give me an idea of what they do at the Advanced Instrumentation and Technology Centre
