Tasco 60mm Refractor

I notice some old refactors up for sale in the classifieds and Col's recent restoration of his Royal 76mm scope which led me to look for some of my old refractors from the 1960's. I found my 60mm Tasco but can't remember the last time I used it, could be 20-30 years ago. I'm sure I have an old 60mm Yosco and 76mm Tasco as well but may be buried deep in the garage somewhere.

The 60mm Tasco is in great condition and perfoms every bit as well as my Polarex/Unitron scopes. I suppose it could definitely fall in the category of a grab & go scope as it has everything needed for visual use, see photographs. I notice similarity of parts to Col's Royal scope, probably made by the various manufacturer's suppliers. Brands I recall are Tasco, Royal, Carton, Mizar, Yosco, Astro Optical.

I saved these from a crumbling original case at a recycling centre. If anyone needs them for a restoration, let me know

Wow....it does look very much ' in the style ' of my Royal Astro Scope.

Take one look at the focuser / finder / focuser Knobs ....definite match.

Even the Lens ' cell ' is the same configuration.

Looks very nice Steve .....

Hii Steve, Your "Tasco" 60mm was made by Royal Astro as seen by the trademark embossed into the nameplate to the right of the serial number. Cheers Mark

Thanks Mark, I hadn't made the connection even though I posted the Royal catalogue on Col's thread. Tasco scopes were generally considered to be pretty poor with the exception of their binoculars. I still have my Tasco 8V catadioptric 130mm OTA and is an excellent performer, it was made by Vixen.

Tasco in the 1960' 1970's did sell excellent equipment, however I guess maximum profit ruled in the 1980's and onwards and quality suffered. Mark
