24th July Sunspots

24th July 2.15 UTC. Central Vic.

Lots of small sunspots at the moment. I managed to get a quick single exposure image at 540 nm with a Canon 550d camera attached to WO 81 mm scope. Cloudy day but I waited for a clear patch to pass. Cheers John W.

Another great image John, still don't know how you do it with a single shot!
There are so many small sunspots in AR3064. Patience is the key with the weather at the moment and then seizing the moment.
Amazingly we did reasonably well with cloud first thing this morning here.

Neil, I use a Baader herschel wedge (expensive) on an 81 mm William Optics refractor. If you want to try taking images of sunspots the cheapest way is to use a proper glass Solar filter on the front of the scope. Hope this helps. Cheers John W.
