Flat Earthers...

https://www.smh.com.au/world/europe/...30-p4zcgu.html

Tis a pity that in the spirit of political correctness we have to suffer these fools... reminds me of Eric von Daniken and his ilk. What's even more disturbing is that the media chose to report this non-event. Not that the press hacks are rather ill-educated.

FWIW what happened to that yank redneck flat-earther who recently tried to blast himself to a decent altitude with a homemade steam rocket ... Survived, unfortunately ?

Neil Tyson Demonstrates Absurdity of "Flat Earth"

Sometimes I wonder why we give Flat Earthers any air time at all...

Neil explains why Earth is round.

There's no shortage of people who feel the need to think that they are 'better' than others, and know things that others don't. These guys fall right into that trap.

I like the idea of a flat earth, only if there is an edge that I can push people off.

Well... Governmets should not be trusted (that is why we have elections now and then)... but what that has to do with Earth shape?
Those people are mixing apples and oranges... and making a quick buck (some of them).

I know they think the earth is flat, but what about the sun, moon and the other planets, do they think they are flat as well?

Send 'em to the sun so they can find out.

That's why the flat earth notion is ludicrous. If the earth was flat, cats would have pushed everything off the edge already

Pretty sure this bloke isn't truly a flat-earther, he just claimed to be so he had people to help pay for his rocket stunt. He's tried raising funds in the past but failed. After claiming to be a flat earther he was able to 'get is project off the ground'

I had to laugh when a manager of the National Health Service standing outside in his backyard doing experiments with a Nikon camera.

"My research destroys Big Bang cosmology. It supports the idea that gravity doesn't exist and the only true force in nature is electromagnetism,"

"His experiments have disproved, he says, the accepted laws of planetary motion."

I also thought another Flat Earther was very creative with his Pacman theory, when you reach the edge of the Earth you are automatically teleported to the other side. That's how you circumnavigate the flat earth.

It's a miracle we ever got a spacecraft out there. Or were the flybys and orbiters faked too?????

I recall some statistics indicating 20% of the US population regard the bible as literally correct..but it may be more.

This is no more extrodinary than someone believing the Earth is flat really. An 900 year old man and his two 100 year old sons building a boat does not ring any bells?

I had a period where my interest in cage fighting was replaced by flat earth stuff and it seemed to me many of the flat earth croud have their belief reinforced by the Bible and may be within that 20% group..but looking so far I can find any passage that indicates the Earth is flat in that book...I could check but reading it cover to cover just once is enough to see me a God fearing atheist.

Lets face it there are some weird and very strange beliefs out there no less idiotic than a belief in a flat Earth.

In fact when you look around you may start to realise thinking clearly or applying reason to the nonsence out there perhaps leaves one in the minority.

There are more nutters than not in my view. I find it frightening to think there are folk weirder than me but bless them they make me stand out as normal.

I dont like to judge people but some are very stupid and dumb such that you could wonder if they were trained to be so...you could not get that stupid even from being repeatedly dropped on your head as a kid...they must have had lessons in stupidity.

It might be lead in the water...yes thats it all the solder in all those pipes getting into the water...lead paint on little lead toys...I have read that lead in the Roman world screwed up their brains..

My point how can folk be so stupid without toxins in their system.

Actually believing the Earth is flat is more reasonable than believing the founder of your religion was given a golden Bible on loan from an angel which he then translated by placing his hat containing a seeing stone over his face enabling him to translate the ancient unknown writing in the golden bible on loan from the angle.

Personally I dont believe he owned a hat.
So this golden Bible Mr Smith...
Where is it..oh you gave it back to the angel..yeh that explains why you cant show it to anyone...who do I make my cheque to? Smith not the same Smith charged with fraud and seducing the young girl next door????

OR...
Check out the church of scientology beliefs and all of a sudden flat Earthers seem somewhat reasonable in so far as they are at least dealing with tangible subject matter and working with local observation of something real namely the Earth below their feet.

Heck you could at least use a spirit level to support your case... did you know the gas in the bubble in a spirit level is poisonous to cats and grasshoppers?

No??? Well very few know about that yet Bunings still sell them.

In fact the more I think about making a list of crazy folk the further from the top of the list I would place the flat earther.

For example who would you rank the craziest if choosing between the folk who believe they were abducted by aliens or a flat earther?...

The whole world is mad except thee and me and I am not really sure about thee☺

And how gullible are most folk and yet the word gullible is not found in modern dictionaries and if it does get included it has a silient "h" so who would look for a word like that in the "h" section?

But if you want crazy look at Republicans in the US...one chap stating...oh never mind his thinking is just too scarey to relate...but its not just one...thank goodness Mr Trump injects some sanity into that crazy group...he is probably the most sain of all of them.

So are these flat earthers all that more crazy than the rest????

The American gun lobby would have to be one of the craziest groups of all, in respect of their ability to ignore the international statistics on gun-related deaths and permanent injury.

Americans are still on the whole addicted to the meme “lone hero with great big gun solves all problems” despite it being irrelevant in this age. Yet most guns are used to kill a family member.

Particularly Hollywood which appears to have descended even further into peddling little else as a “storyline”.

Hi Alex,
Luv your article; oh how I would enjoy an evening with you in your lounge over a scotch, or beer, or whatever. Incidentally, I came across a
poll that showed that 58% of U.S. citizens believe the Earth to be less than 10,000 yrs old.

Hollywood....
Certainly some wonderful efforts come from there but then there is the rubbish.

The movies based on supernatural and hot fast cars ( like Fast and Furious franchise) presenting all that is wrong as admirable qualities of the hero in the movie, would turn many brains to mush.

As I said I do enjoy cage fighting however ... one fight in particular...the fighter was not doing so well and his second gave him such wonderful advice between rounds...the lord will tell you what to do...but he still copped a flogging☺

Wavey,
The yanks, like the Germans, have an inbuilt superiority complex.
The Germans have some justification in so far as they are methodical,
persistent, generally well educated, and demanding in things such as
quality control etc, but I can't for the life of me see what the yanks have got going for them. Their only claim to fame would have to be their belief that
bigger is better. 27% of them live on or below the poverty line!!!!!!!
I imagine that it is the only so called first world country where that is the case.

And indeed I am sure I would enjoy your company as well Raymo.

So I rate the folk who date the Earth according to a religious book just as bad as the flat earth folk...they both ignore science and that is just so wrong in this modern era when we dont need to invent stuff via crazy supertitious uninformed speculation.

And this I may not agree with what you say but I will fight to the death for your right to say it...well not so much...I dont accept the right to indulge lies as something I would present myself for as canon fodder.

Nevertheless the crazy stuff that is out there I find alarming.
And more alarming is US does not have a monopoly on crazy...how honour killings and bombing girls schools annoys me.

Give me control and we would not have a problem other than what to do with all the compost.

Stuff this tolerance of intolerant crazy fools...cull them.
Heck humans are so good at controling breeding programs for animals to weed out the rubbish yet they let fools breed as a right...

And freedom of speech would only be an entitlement if I approve..if not more compost.

Heck we would end up with a better breed of human and enough compost to produce food for the couple of hundred left for a long long time...

Dont like astronomy?.
.compost...dont like compost?..compost...

But I would round up the flat earthers and set them off to find the edge of the world...even give them floaties...are the ceremony..all paddling out the heads of Sydney on boxing day after the boats have left.
