What was that?

Hello,
I have recently seen something enter the atmosphere at very high speeds and I was so fascinated , it happened in Victoria. Now I dont really know if it was an asteroid or a space junk or whatever it may be. Also, when it was entering at fast speed it disappered too quick. But I also saw it for less then a second.
I would really like to know how it came so fast and the material can be less than a second seen, going at fast speed and suddenly disappearing!
Also what would it most likely to be (for example space junk, asteroid and so on)

What altitude?
What direction was it travelling?
What did it look like? Colour? Glowing? How long did it last? Did it leave a trail?
