So they put in a "tracky" to be able to help with breathing intervention. YetI choke near to death about every fifteen minutes because of coughing fits and build up of gunk...but dont worry about the gunk or coughing...why not..you put in a tracky to save my breathing yet let me choke on gunk??? I lose my breath you need to clear me before a coughing fit...we cant come until you cough ...in end I got them to agree to come when I pressed buzzer ....a nurse was sneezing...why are you on deck..It only just started...I finally said..I cant risk getting a cold I want another nurse.....so good overall but some basic stuff is odd.
My thoughts go out to you Alex. It brings back memories of when I had a great slab of my tongue removed. I woke up wired with all sorts of crap, and like you the dreaded trach. It is not fun spewing through one of these. In addition I had at least 50 staples attached to a cut in my neck from my adams apple to my right ear. This is where they removed a heap of lymph glands.
If you were on blood thinners, do NOT let them get you back on them too quickly as I found out to my detriment, it started the whole issue bleeding like a fountain, had 2 emergency ops to quell the flow, the last should have only taken around 30 mins but took 3 hrs, I believe I was in all sorts of crap at one stage according to the surgeon.
Anyway my point is that happened 11 years ago now and I am still here to be a bit of a nuisance. The subsequent radiation pretty well ruined my taste and saliva glands, not tasted anything since. As well my thyroid function is extremely degraded and have to take thyroxine for the rest of my life.
But you have to fight through these things and yep it sure as hell is not fun, but neither is the alternative.
Thanks Peter for your story and advice.
Thanks Thomas very much for the jokes.
All leads and pee bag gone, eat a small nreakfast and had shower, shave and shampoo.
Talking pretty good walking.

Moved me to public ward.
Big private room, private bathroom, exceptional view.
No carpet but thats ok. Tonight I eat a normal meal. Today 1000% on last four or more weeks and particularly the torment of the last eight days

Hi Alex,
I had a gutfull of being in a HCU for just two days a month ago, so I can just barely imagine what eight days in an ICU must have been like. Glad to hear you are progessing.
Nothing better than a decent shave after such an experience.
Cheers,
Renato
Got it wired here..found a tea machine and free custard in the fridge...busy showing everyone my astro photos so they know I deserve free custard...
They will send me home in a couple of days so I am trying to figure out some pain someplace that will keep me here for observation...so another day in now what has become paradise.
Thanks all your kind input is greatly appreciated.

So I now just have a hole my neck, with dressing, that in a short time just heals up...no more bits to remove.
Close to the end of it all thank goodness.
There may be results as to what was cut out in 2 days and that will help in assessing the lung...
