Ngc2997

hi

Thought I'd have a crack at a galaxy.. got a lot less data than I'd planned for mainly due to user errors!!

Galaxy NGC2997 in the constellation Antlia.
Distance - 25 million light years

Taken from Kinglake, Vic, Australia

Larger version
https://flic.kr/p/RLjWMj

This is rather small in the FOV of my 10inchF4, so this is a 70% crop.

Equipment
10inchF4 Newtonian
LRGB - 40m / 6min / 9min / 9min
SBIG STF8300m
Paramount MyT
Processed in Startools and PS

Comments welcome

Cheers
Alistair

For such limited exposure time it's a very pleasing result

Hmmm?..the colour looks quite a way's off Alistair (very grey/blue) but the details are really pretty good, as are the faint extensions revealed, you have that kind of foot like arm (huh?) at the bottom

Not sure what has caused your colour imbalance though..? Could you have got your filter files mixed up in the RGB'ing? or in fact inside the filterwheel? Or perhaps due to the very limited colour you collected it just got a bit skewed?

quite possible Mike. the 2am processing could have contributed as well.
no the filters are definitely right, just rusty in PS.
will revisit.

Thanks

Thanks for the comments,

I've tweaked the colours a bit. used David Fritz's image, but at my scale details would be limited.

I need to spend a whole night on a target. will refine with more data.
I was surprised to see something decent with such little data.
